KAPHEUS ILLUSTRATIONS
David T. Wenzel, the world famous illustrator best known for his graphic novel adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, illustrated the covers of all three Kapheus books.
From the black wolf to the dragon and everything in between, David T. Wenzel created the world of Kapheus in each illustrated cover.

Kapheus Earth Step 1 of Book Cover
Having read the manuscript, David T. Wenzel set out to create the kapheus Earth illustrated cover. The first step in this process was to create ideas for the book cover based on his interpretation of scenes from the manuscript. You can see from these rough sketches that there were a number of potential book covers.
It was Halloween night when I received the sketches and the prime opportunity to share these with the children I had invited to a Halloween party. I took a step back and allowed the children to choose the sketch that would ultimately be the illustrated cover of my first book.

The children chose the sketch in which the characters of the book were running from the Dark One, but most importantly of all, there was a large dragon protecting them. The children really wanted the dragon to be there. David T. Wenzel produced variations of this one sketch to see which would appeal the most.
At this stage it was down to me as the author to make the decision on the final modified sketch.

Kapheus Earth emerged from its manuscript and was now a genuine book. It was an amazing experience to watch such a fine artist at work. David T. Wenzel was an absolute professional and we worked very well together.
Thank you David.

Kapheus Water Step 1 of the Book Cover
David T. Wenzel read the manuscript for Kapheus Water and on this occasion he asked me to choose the illustrated cover. I handed the choice of cover to the children in Kapheus Earth and to David in Kpaheus Water, because I was fully aware of my limitations. I am a writer and not a child or an illustrator. I thought it would be best to leave that piece to those who knew more than me.
However, having read this manuscript, David T. Wenzel knew this book held a deeper meaning and a place very close to my heart. I accepted his challenge and took command of my own illustrator cover. I asked for a specific type of sketch and chose the one that had significant meaning for me.

Kapheus Water Step 2 of the Book Cover
This is the sketch I chose. I wanted, Fódla, the little pink dragon to be surrounded by love and held in Elisa's arms. I wanted the little dragon to take centre stage in the cover.
Fódla is a character that children all over the world love dearly. She is a brave little dragon and full of light.
I wanted all the significant characters to be a part of this cover and so the robin was added to the sketch as this bird plays such a role in the lives of the children in Kapheus.
Well done again, David T. Wenzel.
